Thank you

It works to say 'Please' and 'Thank You'

In our fast paced world, it can sometimes feel like people are out for themselves, chivalry is on the way out, and people say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ less and less. I find myself more often than not standing in front of till making a purchase, and when the transaction is complete I say ‘thank you’, but receive no response in return. I leave annoyed.

Electronically, I’m sure many of us have experienced a help request in the form of a text or email such as 'Can you help me with...?' It’s not intended to be rude, but something is missing – the word ‘please’. Good manners are essential for building relations and gaining mutual respect.

A positive working environment

People like to deal with kind, mannerly, respectful and trustworthy people. If you demonstrate these values in business, people will like you and want to do business with you. By fostering an environment of respect, you build positive relationships that enable a working environment to function for everyone. This seems simple enough but many businesses just don’t get it.

In my line of work - product technical support - basic courtesy is a fundamental building block of any good customer service policy. Good customer service is essential to the success of a business, as we are more likely to recommend and do business with companies who treat us well.

Inspire

Thankfully, when I come into work I have the pleasure of dealing with colleagues and customers where mutual respect is demonstrated on a daily basis, and for that I am truly grateful - it makes my work life so much better. Recently, SD Worx secured the title of Employer of the Year for 2017 for the 2nd year running from the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals (CIPP) at their 14th Annual Excellence awards. Such an award is testament to good relations between employer and employee.

At SD Worx, colleagues live by a set of company values where we aim to inspire both employees and clients. And by inspire, I don’t just mean the standard definition of inspiration. Inspire stands for integrity, smart cooperation, passion, innovation and result driven. Our values are incredibly important to our company, as essentially they describe our company culture, what’s important to us and what makes us different.

In the SD Worx family we believe that by living our values every day, we become the best that we can be for ourselves, our teams and our customers.

So don't forget...

No matter what your profession in life, please consider your use of ‘please’ and ‘thank you’, and when offered, be sincere. Three words which don’t cost anything to say but make a world of difference. Three words when repeated daily, really do work towards success in business and personal life, and encourage a more pleasant environment into the bargain.
